Two ways we work
Both are the same act of generating evidence, against the same themes.
Independent research
Self or grant funded, and published openly.
Commissioned research
Carried out for clients and partners, often confidential, including applied and UX research for product teams.
Our process, in four stages
- 1
Frame
We define the question with the people and institutions it affects, setting clear objectives and scope, and stating our positionality explicitly.
- 2
Investigate
We collect and analyse evidence using mixed methods, from desk review and data analysis to interviews, fieldwork and co-design, chosen to fit the question.
- 3
Synthesise
We turn evidence into findings and implications, holding calibrated confidence in what the evidence can and cannot support.
- 4
Share
We publish openly and in peer-reviewed venues, produce accessible briefs, and feed findings into decisions, policy and practice.
Research infrastructure
We build the infrastructure that makes rigorous research possible where it is hardest to do well.
EKZ Evidence
A provenance-tracked evidence base that links each finding to its source and validation status.
Wadiri
Research intelligence for transcription and analysis of research interviews in Nigerian speech and languages.
Our principles
Independent
Our findings follow the evidence, whoever funds the work.
Evidence-led
Claims are held with confidence calibrated to what the evidence supports.
Methodologically explicit
We state our methods and our positionality rather than leaving them assumed.
Locally grounded, globally connected
Rooted in Sub-Saharan African and UK contexts, in conversation with global research.
Responsible with data and AI
Provenance, consent and careful use of AI are built into how we work.
Collaborate with us
Collaborate on a study, commission research, or partner with us on a programme.
