The research arm of STEMRES

Understand problems.Generate evidence.

We conduct research across technology, education, skills and development, and we build the people, programmes and partnerships that turn evidence into better decisions.

From the first question to evidence in use

We produce independent, rigorous evidence on how technology, education and public systems are changing, grounded in more than a decade of research in Sub-Saharan African and UK contexts. We publish independent research openly, and carry out commissioned research for clients and partners, including applied and UX research for product teams.

Both follow the same four stages.

  1. 1

    Frame

We define the question with the people and institutions it affects, setting clear objectives and scope, and stating our positionality explicitly.

  2. 2

    Investigate

We collect and analyse evidence using mixed methods, from desk review and data analysis to interviews, fieldwork and co-design, chosen to fit the question.

  3. 3

    Synthesise

We turn evidence into findings and implications, holding calibrated confidence in what the evidence can and cannot support.

  4. 4

    Share

We publish openly and in peer-reviewed venues, produce accessible briefs, and feed findings into decisions, policy and practice.
